Most people don’t think of “superfood” when they think of melons. Watermelon often gets dismissed when compared to exotic fruits like acacia, dragon fruit, or goji berries, but herbalists know that all real foods are superfood when applied at the right time. Watermelon is chocked full of nutrients benefiting heart health and soothing digestion. Traditional Chinese Medicine which has been cataloging the properties of herbs and food for thousands of years and describes watermelon as an energetically cold & sweet food that affects the stomach, heart, and bladder. It’s important to note that these are the Traditional Chinese Medicine concepts of these systems rather than the organ. TCM says watermelon may be helpful for relieving Summer heat, lubricating the gut, lifts mood, hydrates & quenches dehydration. TCM recommends avoiding watermelon for those with excessive dampness or frequent urination. I consider watermelon to be the perfect snack during the summer months when the heat hits and high temperatures are sustained. Watermelon is especially helpful when there's risk of dehydration, but little thirst as it’s packed with electrolytes such as potassium. Ditch Your Gatorade for this:WATERMELON SLUSHIE RecipeIngredients3 Cups of Ripe Watermelon Fresh Lime JuiceSprinkle of Salt (we use Celtic Sea Salt or Frontier Pink Himalayan Salt for added minerals)Drizzle of Honey (optional)
Cut watermelon into chunks & freeze until solid. Overnight or about 3 hours in the freezer will do.
Put frozen watermelon in blender or food processor.
Add 1 teaspoon of fresh squeezed lime juice
Sprinkle in a dash of mineral salt
Drizzle of honey (optional)
Buzz it up until the desired consistency and BAM! Fruit Slushie 💥 😋 🍉
